ProvenanceThe sugar bowl was brought to Australia by the Steingraber family in 1951. The Steingrabers left their home in Austria prior to the outbreak of the Second World War and migrated to China, where they lived in Shanghai throughout the 1940s. They then migrated to Australia in 1951. This sugar bowl is part of a large collection donated by Anna Shepherd, Mrs Steingraber's daughter. There is a cup and saucer of similar manufacture which has also been donated by Anna Shepherd.SignificanceThis sugar bowl is representative of belongings brought to Australia by post Second World War migrants.DescriptionWhite porcelain bowl, decorated with gold festoons. Gold knob on top of lid, banded with gold. Pot base stands 75mm high. Identifying mark on base is of the Schlaggerwald porcelain factory in Bohemia.
