Collection SummaryThe Kaurna people’s land of Tarndanya, place of the Red Kangaroo dreaming, is now where we find the city of Adelaide.
On 29 December 1836 Colonel William Light fixed the precise location of the city and by March of the following year he had completed his survey of Adelaide, laying out its 1042 'town acres'. Light created the familiar north, south, east, west grid pattern of the city centre which has seen surprisingly little change in the years following.
The History Trust of South Australia holds photos and objects documenting the history of Adelaide, and the changes that have taken place here.
