Harold John (Jack) Watson was fascinated by magic and became a semi-professional magician, on top of his career as a school teacher in regional South Australia. He was born on 20 March 1900 in Meadows, South Australia. Harold Watson joined the Sydney based Australian Society of Magicians as a country member in 1919 before he advocated to establish the Australian Society of Magicians, Adelaide in 1920. Harold's repertoire was versatile, including paper tearing, chalk talk, rag pictures and mind reading. He used many different stage names for his different magic programs, including Felix Fantus, Wizard Watson, and The Great Fakari, among other names.
