ProvenanceThe bell from the barque “Norma”, which carried cargoes of wheat from South Australia to Europe.
The ship was anchored off Semaphore in April 1907 when the Ardencraig collided with it, sinking the ship. Later that morning, the steamer Jessie Darling came to assist but was also sunk after the shallow wreck of the Norma tore into its hull. The wrecked ship remained a hazard to shipping for several years before it was destroyed by dynamite.
The wreck now forms part of Adelaide’s Underwater Heritage Trail.
