The horses were bred at Grave's Farm, Gawler West, and broken in the sand hills at Fort Glanville and Semaphore. The medal is engraved on one side with ‘PRESENTED/ TO/ John Jennings' and on the other side with 'BY the/ PORT ADELAIDE/ DRIVERS/ ASSOCIATION/ MAY 1890'. The inscriptions are on a slightly indented surface with a scroll design forming the rim/mount. The chain is made up of slender links, open in the middle and joined by circular links at each end.
