ProvenanceWhen Henry Perry (later Chief Petty Officer in charge of the Torpedo Station) returned to Port Adelaide with his shipmates on the Protector he brought back presents from China for his family. The ship "Protector" had been sent by the Colony of South Australia to China to join the "China Wars" in 1900. Some items remained in the Perry family including: an opium pipe, a set of furniture for a doll's house, silk children's shoes, silk shoes for a woman's bound feet. The shoes donated by members of the Perry family and descendants of Henry Perry, Coralie Leaney (nee Anderson).

b) Tapered shape to front of shoe (shoe ends in a downward point below where you would expect the toes to be). Design of flower and leaves in ink on base. Black material with white flower. Purple swirl near back of shoe. Around rim of shoe there is a green and blue design reminiscent of the Greek key design. The Perry family lived in a wood-framed residence at the North Arm Torpedo Station for 20 years.
