COLLECTION SUMMARYFew technologies have shaped the modern history of Australia like the advent of motorised vehicles. A luxury for the wealthy when they first appeared at the very end of the Nineteenth century, within a few decades cars and motorcycles became Australia’s standard modes of transport. After the Second World War a booming local manufacturing industry helped ensure that one or more cars in the garage became a staple in most Australians’ lives. The History Trust of South Australia’s National Motor Museum houses a collection of motor vehicles that explore the wide ranging impact the motor has had on our lives.
