COLLECTION SUMMARYIt is estimated that one in five Australians will have a disability at some point in their lives, and yet the experiences of people with disabilities are often overlooked. The History Trust collects objects that represent the diverse experiences of disability, disability activism, the care of people with disabilities, and changes in social, political, and medical attitudes towards disability. Central to this growing collection are items from the former Home for Incurables at Fullarton (later the Julia Farr Centre), from Townsend House (previously the Blind, Deaf & Dumb Institution), and from Glenside Hospital (formerly Parkside Lunatic Asylum).
