ProvenanceThis hero badge forms part of a collection of items which were created by artist Penny White and her artist neighbour Maureen Cook during Covid-19. They were distributed throughout the Exeter neighbourhood and meant to spread cheer and express gratitude during days of self-isolation.
The hero badges were a way for Jenny to acknowledge everyone who cared for the community during the pandemic.SignificanceThe History in the Making Project is collecting objects relating to both individual South Australians’ experience of the pandemic and the operation of businesses, charities, and government.These whimsical pieces of ephemera illustrate how the local neighbourhood has supported each other during the pandemic.DescriptionThe hero badge is made from old Mills and Boon books and packaged in an homemade envelope. The handwritten text on the badge reads, 'Local heroes medal 2020'.
