Significant as a representation of Australian queer culture on the international stage. Made in the amigurumi style, a style popular initially in Japan in the 2000s but becoming worldwide after about 2010. Dolls in this style have exaggerated heads, often large or emphasised eyes, and smaller bodies, giving a stylised cartoon or 'cute' look. Richard makes his dolls to explore queer culture and finds inspiration in cartoons, TV, the horror genre and other areas.
